Roofing services in Brighton
Five kinds of job make up nearly everything we do. If yours doesn't fit neatly into one of them, that's normal - most roofs need a bit of two or three.
Roof repairs
A leak rarely starts where the water shows up. It runs along a rafter or the back of the felt and drips somewhere else entirely, so the first job is tracing it back to where it gets in. Then we fix that, not the stain.
Typical repairs: replacing slipped or broken slates and tiles, re-bedding ridge and hip tiles, patching torn underlay, sealing around skylights and vents, and sorting storm damage after a bad night.
- Emergency cover-ups to keep the weather out
- Before and after photos sent to you
Re-roofing
Once a roof has had repair after repair, or the slates are flaking and the nails have rusted through, a new roof costs less in the long run than another round of patches.
We strip the old covering, check the timbers and replace any that have rotted, then fit breathable membrane, new battens and the finish of your choice: natural slate, clay tiles or concrete tiles. In a conservation area we match what's there so it sits right with the rest of the street.
Where we usually find flat roofs
- Kitchen and rear extensions
- Dormers and loft conversions
- Bay window tops
- Garages, porches and outbuildings
- Hidden valleys behind Regency parapets
Flat roofs
Old felt tends to blister, split and pond water, and once it starts it doesn't stop. We replace tired flat roofs with modern coverings such as rubber (EPDM) or fibreglass (GRP), built up on a sound deck with the right fall so the rain goes where it should.
If the deck underneath has gone soft, we'll show you and replace it rather than lay a new covering on top of a problem.
Chimneys & leadwork
Chimneys sit in the worst of the weather and get looked at the least. Crumbling mortar, a cracked cement cap round the pots, or lead flashing that has pulled away from the brick will all let water in, and it usually shows up as damp on a chimney breast.
We repoint stacks, rebuild the flaunching, renew flashings and lead valleys, and fit cowls or caps to chimneys you no longer use. If a stack isn't needed at all, removal is an option too.
Gutters & roofline
A blocked or sagging gutter sends rain straight down the wall, and that is how a lot of damp starts. We clear gutters and downpipes, fix leaking joints and reset the falls, or replace the lot.
Rotten timber fascias and soffits can be swapped for uPVC, which won't need painting, and it's the right time to sort out any bird or wasp problems under the eaves.
